I currently serve as a member of the Academic Senate, where I listen carefully, learn from colleagues, and participate thoughtfully when my perspective or expertise can support the discussion. While I tend to be a quieter member, I value the opportunity to engage in shared governance and contribute to conversations that impact teaching and learning at the college. When I do speak, I focus on representing Noncredit and Basic Skills faculty and advocating for equitable practices that support adult learners.

As I learn about the curriculum process at LACC, I make it a priority to stay informed on new policies and laws impacting curriculum development across the state. After each meeting, I write a brief summary of key issues that may affect our Adult Education and Noncredit team, forwarding relevant communications to my team as needed. Currently, I am developing a more streamlined process for sharing updates and tracking curriculum developments within our department.
Update: I am still involved in the LACC Curriculum Committee and learning. I have since requested access to see the department's curriculum in process to ensure I can follow where it is in the process.

As part of the Basic Skills Community of Practice, my goal for the upcoming semester is to facilitate this committee. Currently, I actively participate and share ideas with other professors, and I aim to create a collaborative space where we can exchange best practices, address key challenges, and develop solutions together. I also plan to organize meetings with specific topics and objectives to ensure each session is purposeful and impactful.
Update: I am still part of this committee and join as meetings are coordinated. I am also part of the LACCD Basic Skills Community of Practice group, led by my colleague, Andrea Villa.

I collaborated with fellow Noncredit professors to develop a master framework for realigning the noncredit curriculum. Together, we identified courses that needed re-categorization and others that could be merged to create a more streamlined curriculum. Most of this work took place over the summer, allowing us to focus on refining the structure and ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our students and programs.
Update: I continue to serve as an active member of the HSE Committee and am committed to aligning our curriculum across the district to ensure consistency and student success. Over the summer, I researched HSE Prep certificate models that could be adopted districtwide to strengthen our program pathways. Currently, the LACC HSE Team and I are focused on aligning our curriculum with CASAS levels to better meet students where they are and support their progression. Working from the master framework developed through this districtwide alignment project, we are also exploring how the Bilingual and Math pathways for HSE Preparation will be structured within Basic Skills to provide equitable access and seamless transitions for all learners.

Collaborated with Basic Skills faculty and administrators to prepare the discipline’s program review, analyze data trends, and identify goals to strengthen curriculum alignment, student success, and equity outcomes. Over the summer, our team met to review the previous year’s program review and assess progress toward identified goals. In early fall, we reconvened to review updated data, discuss trends in enrollment and student performance, and draft new action plans. Together, we developed resource requests, curriculum goals, and strategies for improvement that align with institutional priorities and support equitable access and success for our adult learners.

This is a new committee for me, and my goal this semester is to learn as much as possible about online education and educational technology. I look forward to connecting with colleagues and understanding how we can use technology to support our students and enrich our teaching. I’m excited to explore new tools and strategies that can enhance digital learning experiences, making online education more accessible and impactful
Update: In the Spring semester, we revised the form to request technology software across the district. This was an excellent learning opportunity to understand how software can be requested. Unfortunately, I have not been as active as I'd like to be in this committee due to other trainings this Fall. My goal for the Spring is to be able to attend the meetings regularly.

Take a breath, soften your shoulders and release.
